The University of Konstanz is a medium-sized, public university located near the city of Konstanz in Baden-Wuerttemberg, just four miles from the Swiss border. It is one of Germany’s 11 ‘Universities of Excellence’ and has been also rated as one of the top 250 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education Rankings (THE). It ranks much higher when it comes to young universities, ranking 7th in THE Under 50 List 2016. It is sometimes dubbed the ‘Small Harvard on Lake Constance’.

The University of Konstanz was founded in 1966. It is home to over 11,500 students, and the university offers over 100-course programs across three faculties: Sciences, Humanities, and Politics, Law and Economics.

The University of Konstanz was founded as a public reform university. Despite its young age, the university joined the German Consortium of Excellence in 2007. It is notable for its choice of Internationally focused undergraduate and postgraduate programs and also for its Teaching degree and First Examination in Law degree. The university boasts a successful Schülerstudium scheme, whereby school students can begin studying at the university when still in school. First-year students typically live on campus, which is situated close to the banks of Lake Constance. The Swiss Alps are also in easy reach.
