Scholarship in Germany for international students

The Expatrio Scholarship is a way for Expatrio to provide financial support to our customers who move to Germany to study.  Entries are now closed for the 2025 Scholarship and winners have been contacted.

The Expatrio Scholarship is designed to help international students overcome financial difficulties and support them in their new German life. All of the following criteria must be met in order to be eligible to win the Scholarship

• You are a new Expatrio Value Package customer. This means you have, or will apply for the Expatrio Value Package, but have not yet activated your Blocked Account and Health Insurance. 

OR

• If you have already applied for only a Blocked Account, or only Health Insurance, you can upgrade to the Expatrio Value Package to be eligible.

AND

• You will begin your studies in Germany in the Winter Semester 2025.
• You submit your video entry and Value Package application before the deadline date (30th September 2025). 
• You will arrive in Germany and activate your Blocked Account and Health Insurance with Expatrio by 31st October 2025.

Yes, of course! The Expatrio Scholarship is open to all who are eligible, not just people who know how to create high-quality videos. 

You can create any type of video, for example, a video of you speaking, an animation, or using stock videos. Just as long as you do not use any copyrighted content. 

High-quality production will be received well, but it will not be the main deciding factor.

The 10 Expatrio Scholarship prizes are: 

1st. place: €15,000.00
2nd. place: €12,000.00 
3rd. place: €9,000.00
4th place: Rent paid for six months up to a total value of €3,000

5th place: New laptop up to the value of € 1,500
6th place: German language classes up to a value of €600
7th place: Semester contribution fee up to a value of €500
8th place: Semester contribution fee up to a value of €500
9th place: €300
10th place: €300

The monetary value of the prizes will be transferred to the winners' Bank Account.

Expatrio Scholarship winners will receive their prize money directly into the Bank Account they use for their Blocked Account payouts. 

The winners will be announced by the end of November 2025, and will be awarded their prize money shortly after. We will contact the winners with exact details.

Maybe you will use it to purchase a new laptop for your studies, put it towards your rent, or enjoy yourself and discover Germany!

We encourage you to put the money to good use. Our Scholarship is created to help reduce your financial stress.

For the winners of prizes such as rent, and semester contribution fees, we will need proof of the cost of these items before you receive your prize money. We will send the monetary value of these items directly to your bank account. You can then use this to spend on the prize.

Yes, you can apply for the Expatrio Scholarship even before you receive confirmation of your university admission in Germany.

However, to qualify for the prize, you must start your studies in the Winter Semester of 2025.
