A globally-renowned city of music near the beautiful Black Forest

Situated in Baden-Wuerttemberg, not far from the German-Swiss border, Trossingen is known as the "city of music". Despite its small size, this border city hosts a famous conservatory, training master musicians for orchestras around the world. It has also been a famous instrument-making center, thanks to companies like Meissner - the oldest maker of harmonicas in the world.

Studying and Working in Trossingen

As far as student life goes, Trossingen is dominated by one institution: the University of Music Trossingen (MH-Trossingen). MH-Trossingen is small (with 470 students), but has a remarkable reputation. It attracts talent from all parts of the world, covering various musical genres, from choral work to chamber music.

Courses include Bachelor of Music (BMus) degrees, qualifications to become a music teacher in Germany, soloists diplomas, and advanced music Master's courses. Some proof of German proficiency is required, but international students are always welcome. The city itself is on the doorstep of Lake Constance and the Black Forest, making it ideal for nature lovers. And partnerships with regional orchestras mean that post-study opportunities are never hard to come by.
