Schwäbisch Gmünd is a large town in the state of Baden-Württemberg – the second-largest town in East Württemberg. It's history dates back to the Roman Empire, and architecture can be seen from as far back as the 14th century. Set in the Swabian Jura Mountain foothills, the town is surrounded by nature and picturesque scenery.
A large town with a population of approximately 60,000, Schwäbisch Gmünd is it is known today was founded in 1162. The Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Applied Sciences and the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Teacher Training have around 3,380 students between them.
The highly-rated design courses at the University of Applied Sciences include degrees in product design, communication design, and interaction design. Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Teacher Training offers degrees in a variety of fields including Early Childhood Education, Nursing Pedagogy, and Engineering Education. There is also a research institute for precious metals and metal chemistry.
The automotive supply industry is a large part of the economy in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Additionally, Barmer GEK, the country’s largest health insurance provider, has its headquarters here. This creative town has around 150 design-related companies, including advertising agencies and architects; it has a long history of gold and silversmiths, which are still producing products today.
