A city dating back to Celtic times, Worms is famed for its history and its wine

A city in the Rhineland-Palatinate, Worms is situated in the southwest of Germany on the Upper Rhine, a couple of hours drive southwest of Frankfurt. The city was founded before Roman times, and has been a major center since at least the 7th century. In German and protestant history it is known for the Edict of Worms, which declared the founder of the modern protestant church Martin Luther a heretic.

A comparatively small city, Worms has a population of around 83,000, and is known in modern times as the home of Liebfraumilch wine, a sweet white wine drunk around the world. The city has a number of beautiful medieval churches, and is home to the University of Applied Sciences, Worms.

Studying and Working in Worms

The University of Applied Sciences, known in German as Hochschule Worms, was founded in 1978 and is known in particular for its Aviation Management and Air Traffic Management programs, both of which are available in English. As such, its research focuses on aviation, as well as tourism, transportation and computer science. The university has around 4,000 students, and the city is an affordable place to live for those studying.

The economy of Worms is based mainly on the services industry, chemical production and woodwork, all of which provide jobs across the city and region. Shipping is also a major source of employment, with around 450,000 tons of shipping passing through the city each year.
