An elegant city of craftsmen and architects
Located in North-Rhine Westphalia, Krefeld is known as the "Velvet and Silk City", due to the role played in its history by Mennonite weavers, who fled to the city in the 17th century. More recently, it was the birthplace of Thierry Hermès - founder of the famous jewelry label, and hosted some of the finest creations of architect Mies van der Rohe.

Located just north of Dusseldorf in North-Rhine Westphalia, Krefeld is home to 227,000 people, and around 20,000 students at a branch of the Hochschule Niederrhein. Famous for its craft production, the city has become a services hub, as well as a major steel and machinery production center.
Studying and Working in Krefeld
Higher education in Krefeld is based around the city's branch of Hochschule Niederrhein (HN), which is shared with Mönchengladbach. HN's Krefeld center focuses on engineering, design, chemistry, computer science, and healthcare - all areas that play key roles in the local and regional economy.
HN provides three popular English language courses: a Bachelor's in Textile and Clothing Management (in keeping with Krefeld's history), as well as Master's courses in Management of Textile Trade and Technology, or International Management. Other courses will require German language proficiency. But if applicants want to enter Germany's fashion sector, there are few better places to study than the "city of velvet and silk."
