Germany’s oldest town offers excellent access to the Eastern Alps

The small town of Kempten in Bavaria was originally settled by the Celts before becoming a Roman town. Its rich history is quickly evident to both visitors and residents alike. The town’s bars and restaurants are found in the town center where life revolves around the historic market square and city hall. The town lies close to the Eastern Alps offering a choice of both German and Austrian ski resorts within an hour’s drive from Kempten.

Kempten has a population of 70,000, including over 6,000 students. The city is home to one public university. Although no archeological evidence has yet been found, the first written mention of the city dates from 50 BC.

Studying and Working in Kempten

The town’s only university is the Kempten University of Applied Sciences. This small institution offers 18 Bachelor's and 13 Master's degree courses in areas such as Business, Engineering, Computer Science and Tourism. Vibrant student life is enjoyed on the modern campus where excellent facilities are available as well as first year accommodation. The campus is located on the southern outskirts of the city, which is easily accessible on foot or by bus.

The university’s dedicated Career Service helps those approaching graduation to find employment. There are many employers in the town including manufacturing, service and tourism companies. There are also many large engineering and automotive companies located in and around nearby Munich.
