Located in the province of Bavaria, but culturally part of Swabia, Neu-Ulm is a suburb of the historic city of Ulm. Once the site of a major US Army base, Neu-Ulm has seen the troops leave and its economy completely rebound, with higher education playing a starring role. Home to a major University of the Applied Sciences, Neu-Ulm is relaxed, close to areas of natural beauty, and not far from Ulm, Munich, or Stuttgart, so it's well-placed for exploring southern Germany.
Located across the River Danube from Ulm, Neu-Ulm has a resident population of 51,000, and hosts 3,800 students. It has a single university (the University of the Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm), but punches above its weight culturally, with four fascinating museums, and a cluster of popular music venues.
Neu-Ulm provides a welcoming setting for Bachelors and Masters study. The local University of the Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm (HNU) specializes in practical subjects like Computer Science, Health Management, Design, and Communications, and the institution works closely with Ulm's manufacturing sector.
The city is a laid-back place to study, offering the historical attractions of Ulm (just across the Danube), the chance to hone musical skills with the HNU Band, and a wide range of sporting facilities, from diving pools to martial arts dojos. Moreover, HNU is proudly international, catering for students from across the world and offering services like mentors, language courses, and in-depth orientation programs. So it's an excellent spot to earn a German degree.
