The medieval capital of the state of Brandenburg
Located to the west of Berlin and in the state of Brandenburg, Brandenburg an der Havel is a city of great beauty known for its architecture and historic churches.
In the center of the city lies the Dominsel (Cathedral Island) where the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, built in 1165, towers over the city. Other sights include the Gothic old town hall, erected in 1474, and the Brandenburger Theater, which has its own symphony orchestra.

Compared to its neighbor Berlin, Brandenburg is a relatively small city, with around 70,000 inhabitants. It has a long history and was first recorded as a city back in 948. During the 19th century, Brandenburg an der Havel was an important industrial center for Prussia, manufacturing world-famous bicycles.
Studying and Working in Brandenburg an der Havel
With around 2,500 students, Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences is a relatively small university, but one that has an excellent reputation for training its students to undertake work in highly skilled professions. The university has three faculties: economics, computer science and media, and technology, with a focus on IT security, energy and resource efficiency and digital transformation. The city is also home to the Brandenburg Medical School, which was founded in 2014 and opened its new campus in 2017.
The economy of Brandenburg is centered on heavy and light industry. There are factories across several sectors in the city, including rail technology, steel production, printing and the automotive industry.
