Course description

The MSc program "Energy Science and Technology" delves into cutting-edge technologies for energy conversion and storage, grounded in the scientific principles that support these advancements. This research-driven program emphasizes electrochemical energy conversion and storage, particularly in fuel cells and batteries. Conducted entirely in English, it caters to both international and German students who hold a Bachelor of Science, preferably in chemistry or physics, or a Bachelor of Engineering, ideally in chemical or electrical engineering. Current lithium-ion batteries, commonly found in smartphones and laptops, have nearly reached their peak storage capacity. This limitation drives experts in Ulm's Science City to explore the next generation of batteries. The program's international and interdisciplinary nature ensures a diverse learning environment, fostering innovation and collaboration among students from various backgrounds.

Language Requirements

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor's degree or at least an equivalent degree at the level of at least three years of study at a university, university of applied sciences, cooperative university or at a recognized foreign university in the study programs chemistry, applied chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, energy science with a focus on natural sciences, physical sciences or in a related or subject-specific course of study with test results that are verified by a) an academic final examination with a bachelor's degree with an overall grade of 2.7 or better or if there is no degree yet, b) through the examinations completed by the application deadline with an average grade of 2.7 or better. Study and examination achievements from chemistry internships or comparable experimental modules in chemistry amounting to at least 8 ECTS points, from mathematics modules amounting to at least 8 ECTS points and from physics modules amounting to at least 8 ECTS points, the ability to carry out independent scientific work, demonstrated in particular by a final thesis or a comparable achievement worth 9 ECTS points, a one-page written report (in German or English) listing the personal and subject-specific reasons for applying to the course of study and justifying the choice of the desired course of study (letter of motivation) and English language skills at level B2 GER (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
