M.Sc. | Master of Science
Course description
The Master in Infection Biology aims to thoroughly equip students for both scientific and applied research in the realm of human and animal pathogens. Courses are conducted in English. Globally, infections are leading causes of increased mortality and morbidity, presenting significant health policy challenges. These challenges demand the expertise of well-trained graduates in basic science, clinical and pharmaceutical research and development, teaching and training, diagnostics, epidemiology, and health policy. Given the global nature of infectious diseases, the program particularly seeks qualified international applicants. The curriculum includes lectures, seminars, and internships/work placements that cover a wide range of subjects. These subjects include microbiology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, clinical presentation (pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention), and the epidemiology of infectious diseases and their pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi, in both basic and advanced forms. This comprehensive approach ensures that students are well-prepared to tackle the complexities of infectious diseases, contributing to research and practice in various critical areas. The program fosters an inclusive and supportive environment, encouraging a diverse cohort of students to engage deeply with the material and emerge as experts ready to address global health challenges.
