Course description
At the Institute of Physics at the University of Kassel, our main research areas include the interaction between light and matter, quantum dynamics and control, nanostructures, laboratory astrophysics, magnetic layers, and surface physics. In our Master’s Programme in Physics, you’ll collaborate with internationally renowned scientists on cutting-edge issues in both basic and applied research. One of our special research areas, “Extreme Light for the Analysis and Control of Molecular Chirality” (ELCH), allows you to use advanced tools in experimental and theoretical atomic and molecular physics, as well as in optics and quantum optics (AMO). This research focuses on controlling and manipulating chirality at the single molecule level in the gas phase. In laboratory astrophysics, you can employ precision spectroscopy to study exotic molecules and clusters that are typically found only in interstellar space. You’ll compare your laboratory findings with astronomical observations to identify previously unknown molecules. In technical physics, you’ll analyze semiconductor nanostructures and nanophotonic components for optical communication and quantum information processing. You’ll also work on optimizing these components using semiconductor quantum dots. At the Centre for Interdisciplinary Nanostructure Science and Technology (CINSaT), you’ll engage in interdisciplinary
