Course description
Since 2004, the Global Labour University (GLU) network has been offering a Master’s program focused on sustainable development, social justice, international labour standards, trade unions, economic policies, and global institutions. This distinctive global initiative is a collaborative effort between universities and workers' organizations worldwide. It targets individuals with experience in labour and social movements who are eager to help these organizations engage more effectively in social dialogue, public debate, and policy implementation. Participants will delve into the complexities of globalization from a labour and trade union perspective, exploring these issues in a multidisciplinary setting. The program fosters a rich, multicultural, and multiregional environment, bringing together students and lecturers from developing, transition, and industrialized nations. This one-year joint degree program is offered by the University of Kassel and the Berlin School of Economics. The curriculum is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to address the challenges posed by globalization. By engaging in this program, students will gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of global economic policies and labour standards, and how these elements impact social justice and sustainable development. A university degree related to a course where the foreign language required was a major focus of studies. A course at a post-secondary education centre (e.g. a university) which lasted at least two years and the language, evidence of which needs to be provided, was the primary language of tuition. Evidence of having successfully completed a language course if a final certificate was issued. Qualification Requirements
Bachelor degree or equivalent in economics, law, pedagogy or social sciences; A total of 240 acquired ECTS credits. In case you have earned less than 240 credits during your BA studies, it is still possible to get admitted to our program. The admission will then be conditional on completing the missing credits during your MA studies by completing more courses or extending your studies by one or two semesters; Knowledge of English language - equivalent to level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF). Advanced knowledge on issues of labor relations and at least one year of practical experience in the representation of workers' interests. A motivation letter (maximum 3 pages long) covering the following questions: How are your previous qualifications and your prospective professional aims and aspirations related to the Labour Policies and Globalisation programme? What is your experience and knowledge in the field of labor relations? Which challenges can you identify for trade union work in the context of a globalized economy and how can these challenges be researched (research proposal)?
Document Requirements
Copy of your university entrance qualification certificate Officially certified copy of your first professional university degree (certificate: e.g. Bachelor's degree, Diplom I, state examination). If you do not have a Bachelor's degree certificate at the time of application, please submit the following evidence: Preliminary overview of subjects and grades of your previous studies and the certificate on the status in your studies, completed and signed by your current examination office: Bescheinigung zum Stand im Studium. At the time of application, at least 80% of the credits required for graduation must have already been earned and passed. This equates to 144 out of 180 or 168 out of 210 credits. In addition, proof of admission to the Bachelor's thesis (indicating the date of submission) must be available. Further proof specified in the examination regulations (see above).
