Course description
After you finish your Bachelor's degree in the polyvalent two-subject Bachelor's degree program with a teaching degree option (B.A. and B.Sc.), you can pursue a teaching-related Master's degree program (M.Ed.). This program focuses on either elementary or secondary school education. You must complete your Master's degree before entering the preparatory service, known as the Referendariat. The "GHR 300" initiative stands for university training for primary (G), secondary (H), and intermediate (R) school teachers, extending the total study period to 10 semesters instead of the previous 8. Together, the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses now amount to 300 credit points. This reform, adopted by the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, does more than just lengthen the study period. It introduces new study elements, such as a practical phase with an integrated practical block and a project band. These elements aim to better connect academic theory with school practice and provide more opportunities for research-based learning.
