Technical University of Dortmund
Dortmund
Process Systems Engineering
Subjects: Process Systems;Engineering
M.Sc. | Master of Science
Course description
The education in the specialization of Process Systems Engineering equips students to tackle the design and operation of intricate chemical and biochemical production systems. This is achieved through the use of mathematical models and cutting-edge computer tools for simulation and optimization. The curriculum includes advanced control and production scheduling methods, as well as the analysis and description of experimental data. Training in Process Systems Engineering is highly sought after in the job market. It provides chemical engineers with the essential knowledge not only to design a chemical plant but also to simulate and optimize its operations. This well-structured course ensures that students won't revisit core chemical engineering subjects like thermodynamics, mass transfer, and heat transfer. Instead, they will delve into subjects such as process control and industrial automation, gaining insights into the electronics involved in a chemical plant. Moreover, students will learn to operate software systems like Aspen and GProms, which are crucial for modern chemical engineering tasks. This specialized training prepares them comprehensively for the demands of the industry, making them valuable assets in the field.

Since the Process Systems Engineering stream of the Master's programme is exclusively taught in English, all applicants must provide a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) certificate. (Institution Code: 8523, Department Code: 1001) Detailed regulations are to be found in the Admission Regulations. Although not demanded by the department of biochemical and chemical engineering of TU Dortmund, TOEFL/IELTS will mostly be asked by the embassies during the visa process. Therefore we ask to undergo a TOEFL, too. In addition we appreciate knowledge of German although this would not be part of the application.
Qualification Requirements
For admission to the Master's Programme, a B.Sc. or equivalent degree in chemical engineering is required. Applicants must show an excellent previous academic performance.
