RWTH Aachen University

Subjects: English;Language;Linguistics
B.A. | Bachelor of Arts
Course description
Linguistics and literary studies form the core of this subject, focusing on understanding rather than just using a foreign language. Strong English skills are essential, especially for advanced language exercises. Linguistics delves into the structure and function of language, particularly English. It covers linguistic theories, language development and acquisition, and computational linguistics. In literary studies, students analyze primary texts from various genres and periods in American and English literature. They use theories and models to understand these texts within their contexts. The program also includes cultural studies and English pedagogy, which explore the fundamentals of teaching English as a foreign language and lesson planning theories. Students should enjoy reading and engaging in critical discussions. They must also be ready to tackle challenging theoretical texts and write extensive papers and homework assignments. The goal is to foster a deep understanding and appreciation of the English language and its literature, while also preparing students for practical applications in teaching and beyond.
