Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg
Magdeburg
Integrative Neuroscience
Subjects: Neuroscience
M.Sc. | Master of Science
Course description
The programme prepares students for a professional career in both basic and applied neuroscience. All courses are conducted in English, catering to both German and international students. This programme has its roots in a German-style Diploma-programme in Neurobiology/Neuroscience, which has been offered since 1997. Integrative neuroscience examines neural components within their functional context. It explores all levels of analysis: How do molecular and cellular components create functioning neurons and synapses? How do brain cells collaborate to form operational circuits? How do these circuits generate behavior and cognition? How are individual brains influenced by interactions with other brains and the natural environment? The master programme focuses on the neural basis of animal and human behavior. It is research-oriented and spans a wide range of neuroscience areas, including molecular, cellular, systems, behavioral, cognitive, and theoretical neuroscience. The programme consists of a few intensive courses, each ranging from 3 to 5 hours per week. Additionally, it imparts essential quantitative and computational skills, which are increasingly vital in all areas of neuroscience.
