Geomatics
Subjects: Geomatics
M.Sc. | Master of Science
Course description
Geomatics, a field born from geodesy and informatics, has grown into a distinct and modern discipline. It spans across geodesy, navigation, geoinformatics, GIS, geosciences, and engineering. Within the geodetic spectrum, geomatics focuses on gathering and merging astronomical data (VLBI), satellite data (GNSS positioning, altimetry, gravimetry), and creating and monitoring global time-dynamic reference systems. Modern measurement systems and sensor platforms in geomatics utilize GNSS, physical sensors like MEMS, and optical sensors such as lidar and cameras. These tools are essential for georeferencing and navigating local objects, including autonomous land, water, and air vehicles. They also play a crucial role in multisensory surveying, mobile mapping, and intelligent robotics systems. Geomatics also delves into processing, analyzing, and visualizing spatial geoinformation, data, and metadata. This leads to the creation of digital maps and other products representing the built and natural environment. Key areas in this part of geomatics include remote sensing, geo-monitoring and change detection, AR/VR, building information modeling (BIM), GIS, and data science. In essence, geomatics is
