Course description
The M.A. course in Visual and Media Anthropology began at the Free University (FU) Berlin. Since the winter semester of 2019/20, HMKW Berlin has offered this program. The course addresses the cultural aspects of digitalization, considering the vast array of new digital media forms and productions globally. It emphasizes the development of film, photography, and virtual reality as tools for effective communication among visual anthropology, research, science journalism, and various communities, including indigenous ones. The advanced master's degree program targets professionals and future leaders in digital media, art, culture, the entertainment industry, and governmental and non-governmental organizations. It also appeals to those interested in documentary film and photography. The program teaches the ethical production of scientific and experimental audio-visual documentaries, focusing on transnational cultures, particularly in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, Latin America, and indigenous communities. The curriculum includes courses on the theory and history of ethnographic film, documentary photography, camera, sound, and editing. Qualification Requirements
The formal admission requirement is a good or very good undergraduate degree in one of the following subjects (university or university of applied sciences): degree in any subject followed by a minimum of one year of work experience (internship, jobs, projects). This work experience should be related to your first degree or to some sort of media practice.
