Course description

The consecutive master's program in Ethnology/Anthropology at the Institute of Ethnology offers advanced training in social and cultural anthropology. In our interconnected world, ethnology, which explores diverse human environments and cultural perspectives, holds significant importance. This master's program focuses on understanding cultural processes and dynamics in a globally networked context while maintaining an awareness of local and everyday life dimensions. Students will learn to identify and interpret local, regional, and global cultural processes and dynamics, considering their meanings, values, mediations, and practices. These processes span economic, religious, political, health, aesthetic, and other social life dimensions. The program emphasizes South and Southeast Asia and Oceania but also includes other global regions and Western societies, ensuring a comparative approach. The master's program deepens theoretical, methodological, and regional knowledge, equipping students with the skills to conduct independent research, solve complex problems, and present thorough analyses of socio-cultural issues. Graduates can pursue various professional fields or, with excellent academic performance, engage in doctoral research. The language of instruction is English.
