Course description
Students delve deeply into the Arab-Islamic world through a comprehensive study program. They explore subjects like the history and culture of Islam, Arabic literature, and the religion of Islam. The program also covers secularism in the modern Islamic world. Students achieve advanced proficiency in the Arabic language. Additionally, they learn another language from the Islamic cultural area or a second Semitic language. This linguistic diversity allows them to access non-Arabic sources on Islamic intellectual and cultural history. If your native language is not English, you must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of English at level B2 of the GeR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe). Knowledge of Arabic: achievements amounting to at least 30 credits German language skills are not required for this programme
Qualification Requirements
Arabic-Islamic Studies can be studied as a Single Honours MA (78 credits) or as a Joint Honours MA totalling 42 credits in combination with one or two external module packages (36/18 credits). Previous studies B.A.-degree or equivalent degree At least 150 ECTS at the time of application Eligibility: Achievements in at least one of the following disciplines: Arabic Studies, Islamic Studies, Iranian Studies, Turkish Studies and/or Central Asian Studies as well as the history, culture and politics of the Middle East, totalling at least 50 credits including achievements in the area of the Arabic language amounting to at least 30 credits as well as in the area of Islamic history, culture, religion and law amounting to at least 15 credits
