Course description
The 21st century faces urgent challenges like climate change, loss of biodiversity, soil degradation, and air pollution. Resource scarcity is also a growing concern, pushing us towards more sustainable practices. The BSc program in Earth Sciences and Sustainable Management of Environmental Resources (ESSMER) tackles these issues head-on. ESSMER is an interdisciplinary major that delves into the phenomena and processes at the Earth's surface. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the Earth's system and how human activities impact its land, atmosphere, oceans, and biosphere. They also learn to manage environmental resources such as water, soils, biological and energy resources, and minerals. The program builds on a strong foundation in scientific disciplines. It incorporates key methodologies and concepts from Earth Sciences and data management, blending them with principles of sustainability and resource management. By the end of the program, students are well-equipped to address the pressing environmental issues of our time, armed with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
