Course description
The master's degree program in Materials Science and Engineering spans 4 semesters and awards 120 ECTS points. The first two semesters focus on compulsory courses in materials science, enhancing your expertise in natural and material sciences. Key subjects include solid state physics, thermodynamics, kinetics, mathematics, and advanced materials, with a special emphasis on modern functional materials. In the third semester, you can choose elective modules to deepen your knowledge in specific areas. This semester also offers the flexibility to study abroad, as there are no mandatory lectures. You will need to prove your language skills (B2) with a certified test, which should be no older than 24 months at the time of application It is also possible to submit an officially authenticated certificate that your bachelor's degree course was taught entirely in English. This though must be issued and certified exclusively by a person or authority holding a public office! Only Native speakers or persons who can verifiably prove that English is the official language in their home country, do not need to present a certified language test.
Qualification Requirements
If you want to start your studies in Kiel at the KielMAT international master's degree program you need: a qualified (at least) three year Bachelor of Science in materials science or a qualified (at least) three year Bachelor of Science in a related scientific field or a diploma in materials science or a related scientific field from a university of applied science (German Fachhochschule)
Document Requirements
List of mandatory application documents: Application form: All prospective applicants/students (except students from Kiel University) must use our online application portal. After submitting your application you will have to print out, sign and send your automatically generated confirmation report via email to kielmat@tf.uni-kiel.de within the given deadline. This is the only document you will have to send this way. Verification of proficiency in English. Certificate of a completed bachelor's degree course or similiar (see provisional degree). University Transcript of Records including a list of subjects, grades and an overview of your university's grading system (Applications cannot be considered without that annex!). Manual of your B.Sc. course: this is a list of modules in your program, showing content, exam form and credits (PDF or a link to your university's module catalogue; in English or German language; we must be able to use a search function within the document). Applications from China, India and Vietnam will only be accepted if accompanied by the Certificate of the Academic examination Board. The APS is a joint institution of the German Ambassy and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It exists in China, Vietnam and India. The APS checks the authenticity of educational biographies and the corresponding educational certifucates, and issues certicates if the result is positive. For Applicants from China, Vietnam and India, the APS certificate is a requirement for applying to a German university.
