Applied Economics & Data Science
Subjects: Economics;Data Science
M.Sc. | Master of Science
Course description
Designing and evaluating government interventions in markets to ensure they function properly or achieve societal goals has always been a cornerstone of economics. A classic example, currently sparking public debate, is using market regulation to protect the environment. This includes introducing taxes or expanding certificate trading to reduce CO2 emissions. Other examples span development policy, foreign trade, the housing market, and financial markets. Evaluating these interventions demands vast amounts of data and modern empirical methods. These methods include econometric estimates, simulation techniques, and Big Data processing and analysis. The degree program at the intersection of economics and computer science recognizes that empirical methods for data analysis in both fields are becoming increasingly similar. As data sets grow, Big Data analysis methods are becoming integral to economics.
