Course description
The “M.A. Iranian Studies” program aims to immerse students in the rich tapestry of Iranian languages, cultures, history, and religions, spanning from ancient times to the late antique era. Participants will gain proficiency in Old and Middle Iranian languages, including Avestan, Old Persian, and Middle Persian, along with one modern Iranian language, such as Persian or Kurdish. This program deepens students' understanding of pre-Islamic Iran and non-Islamic Iranophone religious traditions. They will be equipped to conduct independent research, emphasizing primary sources whenever possible.

Qualification Requirements
For admittance to the master’s program applicants need to fulfill the following admission requirements: Applicants for the Master’s programme in Iranian Studies require a first university degree from a German university or a higher education institution outside Germany in History and Cultures of the Middle East (Concentration: Iranian Studies) or a foreign degree equivalent in content and structure to the Bachelor programme in History and Cultures of the Middle East (Concentration: Iranian Studies) of the Freie Universität Berlin. One of the following Bachelor degrees can also be accepted: Middle Eastern or Central Asian Studies, Indo-European Studies, Studies in Ancient Civilisations, History, Cultural Studies, Linguistics, Literature, Social Science, Politics, Ethnology or Theology. Proof of English skills (level C1 CEFR).
