Famous for its jewelry-making traditions, Pforzheim deserves its nickname as Baden-Württemberg's "Golden city." Located on the edge of the sprawling Black Forest, the city is full of industrial enterprises, ranging from dental equipment manufacturing to watch-making. It's also a major regional educational center, thanks to a popular University of Applied Sciences, giving students a great entry-point to the booming economy.
Situated between Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, Pforzheim is a medium-sized industrial town with 124,000 people. Almost 6,000 students play a major role in local life, but the city isn't dominated by its educational institutions. Instead, it's an elegant, sophisticated southern German city, with orchestras, theaters, and museums aplenty.
Pforzheim is the ideal place to study for people who want to enter the lively manufacturing and commercial economy of the Black Forest region. It's not large, by any means, and definitely not a tourist magnet. Instead, Pforzheim is an efficient, business-like town with an eye on industry. Although, it does find time to relax, especially when the Happiness Music Festival rolls into town each July.
With its high density of manufacturing businesses, the city is well set up to train technicians and business administrators. And that's where the Hochschule Pforzheim, or Pforzheim University, excels. Known for its practical Bachelors and Masters-level courses, the Hochschule also runs several international MBA programs, including some that are exclusively taught in English. The Design School offers transport design courses in English, while Digital Enterprise courses are also focused on those from around the world. It all adds up to a cosmopolitan learning environment.
