A past political capital, and Beethoven's hometown

Bonn lies on the River Rhine, and has played an instrumental role in German history. In the 18th century, Beethoven was born there, and remains Bonn's most celebrated son. After World War Two, the city became the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, and continues to serve as an administrative hub.

Studying and Working in Bonn

Founded in 1818, the University of Bonn is a noted research center, having taught 10 Nobel prize winners in medicine, economics and literature. The modern portfolio of courses is similarly broad, with Bachelor's and Master's ranging from agricultural sciences to geodetic engineering.

Research focuses on physics and mathematics (thanks to the Hausdorff Center), while on the graduate side, the university is a major economics institute, training many economists for regional businesses.

Students can choose a variety of English language courses, and counseling services are available for international students. The city itself is very welcoming for those coming from overseas, and career prospects are bright, with major employers including Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post/DHL.
