The Digital Studies of Ancient Texts (DISTANT) is a two-year, full-time master’s program at Freie Universität in Berlin. Taught in English, this interdisciplinary program merges text and language studies from Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Egyptology, and Coptology with computational modeling and analysis. Unlike traditional master's programs in Ancient Near Eastern Studies (Cuneiform Studies) and Egyptology, DISTANT includes modules on digital methods. Students focus on computer-assisted processing and computational analysis of ancient texts. They gain both subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills, enabling them to address complex questions across various sources.
