The capital of the German state of Hesse, Wiesbaden is located in the southwest of Germany. The city is one of the richest in Germany and is known in particular for its hot springs, of which there are fourteen. The city is fairly large, with around 290,000 inhabitants and dates back to 6 AD, when the Roman Empire erected a fort there. The thermal springs of the city began being used shortly afterwards. The modern city is a mix of old and new buildings but has a number of notable architectural sites, including the Ducal Palace, Kurhaus and St. Elizabeth’s Church.
