A picturesque town on the banks of the river Neckar
Rottenburg am Neckar, also known as simply Rottenburg, is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg in the south of Germany. The name of the town is believed to have been derived from a word meaning destroyed, due to the Roman ruins found during settlement in the Middle Ages. Gothic and Baroque architecture can be seen in the cathedral, fountains, and other buildings throughout the town.

This mid-sized town has a population of around 44,436 people. There are two universities which specialize in forestry and church music, respectively, with a total of more than 1,100 students. Around 50 pubs, cafes, and restaurants provide plenty of options for socializing around town. Nine museums display information, art, and artifacts related to the area, the World War II, and more.

At the University of Applied Forest Sciences Rottenburg, students can gain degrees in a number of subjects, including forest management, renewable energies, and water resource management. The Catholic College of Sacred Music offers music training and degrees in church music. A range of clubs, sights, and social venues are popular with students in Rottenburg.
