Historic Elbe River city home to the famous Green Citadel
Magdeburg is the capital city of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. One of Eastern Germany’s most historic cities, it’s the final resting place of Otto I.
The eclectic city features wide boulevards and historic Gothic buildings such as the Cathedral, along with post-modern landmarks such as Hundertwasser’s Green Citadel. Many of the city’s best bars and attractions lie along the green banks of the River Elbe.
Magdeburg’s location in the heart of Germany gives residents excellent access to Berlin (2 hours), Hannover (1.5 hours) and Leipzig (1.5 hours).

Studying and Working in Magdeburg
There are two public universities in Madgeburg; Otto-von-Guericke University and the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. Otto-von-Guericke University is one of Germany’s youngest institutions, founded in 1993. It offers a range of degrees in courses such as Mathematics, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Economics and Medicine. The Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences has two campuses, one on Magdeburg and one in Stendal. This university offers a wide range of courses from Applied Childhood Studies to Journalism, Design and Waste Management.
Employment in Magdeburg is diverse. The city is a celebrated modern manufacturing hub where employment opportunities are available in the steel, paper, textiles, chemicals and mechanical engineering industries.
