A university town with outstanding Weser Renaissance architecture

Lemgo is located in the Lippe district of North Rhine-Westphalia, 70km from Hannover. The town has retained much of its original architecture. The unique Weser Renaissance style can be seen in half-timber buildings throughout the town. The most famous house in Lemgo is the Hexenbürgermeisterhaus finished in 1571, an ornate structure named after a 17th-century mayor who used witchcraft to further his career.

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Ostwestfalen-Lippe, also known as TH OWL, is based in Lemgo. On campus, there is an observatory, a racing team, and a design lab for all students to use. There is also a Fraunhofer Institute research facility in the town.

Lemgo and the surrounding areas are important locations for the mechanical engineering and electronics industries in Germany. Metalworking, medical technology manufacture, and the service industries are also well represented in Lemgo. The town has a high employment rate and companies are closely linked with the university to encourage innovation.
