Hildesheim

A famous Christian center with stunning religious architecture

Located in Lower Saxony, in northern Germany, Hildesheim has a simply beautiful center, with numerous UNESCO-protected constructions. For instance, the Cathedral houses a globally famous collection of chandeliers and relics, but the whole neighborhood is a treasure chest of churches and civic buildings. While the city seems to be stuck in a time-warp, much of the city was meticulously, and brilliantly restored after World War II.

Studying and Working in Hildesheim

History may be all around in Hildesheim, but the city has a very forward-looking university. The University of Hildesheim (UH) was founded in 1946 and focuses on education above all else, with a strong international emphasis.

TestDAF qualifications are required by many courses, but language learning support is available for international students, and a buddy system also helps visitors settle into their studies. Excursions are also provided to the city's many historical monuments, as well as local cultural events like M'era Luna - one of Germany's most popular alternative music festivals.

The university is an excellent place to begin a teaching career in Germany. Students can expect opportunities at Gymnasium and Realschule levels, as well as the chance to pursue careers in administration and charity work.
