Westphalian University of Applied Sciences, or Westfälische Hochschule, is present in four cities in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia: Ahaus, Bocholt, Gelsenkirchen and Recklinghausen. Being a state-managed university, it focuses on offering practical and academic training in its campuses in order to assure qualified workers who meet the economic needs of the region.

Founded in 1992 under the name of Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences, the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences has almost 30 years of history. With more than 8,000 students and 200 professors in its four campuses, the university is proud of offering an international environment for students attending one of the 45 courses offered.

To develop its young talents, the university of applied sciences supports studies and research in a broad range of topics. As one of the educational pillars, research at the Westfälische Hochschule is shaped by application-orientation and close cooperation with the practical field. The university offers eight research focus areas that range from Cyber Security to Urban Traffic. This diversity is also present in the university's openness to international students.
