A maritime city home to the oldest university in the Baltics

Situated on the Baltic Coast at the estuary of the River Warnow, the city is home to a historically significant port. It was a major facet of the Hanseatic League and still has the official name, The Hanseatic City of Rostock.

It is the largest city in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and boasts a 600-year-old university. The city has a largely industrial landscape but beyond this are small quarters of historic beauty such as the Market Square and the maritime houses at Warnemünde beach.
