Studying and Working in Göttingen

Göttingen has been one of Germany's most important academic centers since the 17th century. In the 1700s, it was known for its philosophers and poets, while the 19th century saw it earn the nickname "the city that spawns scientific achievement." Nowadays, Göttingen hosts numerous universities. There's the enormous Georg-August University, various Max Planck Institutes, the German Aerospace Center, and the Private University of Applied Sciences, and students can choose highly specialized aviation engineering courses, or general science, humanities, and management degrees. It all blends neatly with the region's major employers, including the companies in the Dresden-Saxony aerospace cluster, or major industrial companies such as Dow and Porsche.

There are plenty of English-language options for international students, with over a third of Masters courses at Georg-August being taught in English. Whatever they choose to study, the "Göttingen Spirit" ensures that visitors from abroad will find a warm welcome.
