A small town in the Harz mountains boasting a spa resort and a technical university

The town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld is located in the state of Lower-Saxony, nestled in the southwest Harz mountains. Once two towns, Zellerfeld has long been a spa and ski resort whilst Clausthal is known for its historic technical university and its place in the mining industry. Today residents enjoy the best of both worlds as these two tiny settlements were merged in the early 20th century to become one town.

Studying and Working in Clausthal-Zellerfeld

Clausthal University of Technology was founded in 1775 and is, therefore, one of the oldest technical universities in Germany. It's handsome campus buildings are located in the heart of the town. TUC ranks highly in Germany for its engineering courses and is also notable for its metallurgy programs. International students make up a large proportion of the TUC population with almost a third hailing from abroad, notably from China. Students are able to enjoy the great outdoors of the Harz mountains where popular activities include skiing and hiking.

Many students find seasonal tourist work in the Zellerfield resort as well as having the opportunity to enjoy industrial placements as part of their studies, which helps them find suitable regional employment after graduating. In fact, many alumni of TUC have progressed to the boards of Germany's top blue-chip companies.
