Course description
The Master Program for Polar and Marine Sciences (POMOR) is a two-year, research-focused interdisciplinary master’s program conducted in English. In the first two semesters, students study at Saint Petersburg State University within the Faculty of Geography and Geoecology, and at the Otto Schmidt Laboratory for Polar and Marine Research at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (ARRI). Between the second and third semesters, students participate in international Arctic expeditions for practical training. Those who excel academically receive scholarships to spend their third semester at Universität Hamburg or at partner universities in Bremen, Kiel, or Potsdam.

Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s or an equivalent degree, preferably in the natural sciences. They must submit an extended application (a so-called PORTFOLIO), including proof of their English proficiency. English language requirements: Applicants should be fluent in English to at least the level of upper intermediate. An international certificate in English (FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS, and TOEFL) would be advantageous

Degree certificate or provisional Transcript of Records: Please highlight the courses, which are mandatory for admission (see admission 3 FAKULTÄT FÜR WIRTSCHAFTS- UND SOZIALWISSENSCHAFTEN requirements). If you are still studying when you apply and cannot yet provide a final certificate containing your grades, please submit your current Transcript of Records confirming your provisional grade point average (GPA). You will then need to submit your degree certificate by the end of the first semester of your master’s program. Please make sure, that the grading scale of your first degree is available on your degree certificate or the current transcript of records. If the grading scale is not clear on these documents, please submit another proof of the grading scale of your first degree. • Proof of English language skills: Applicants who, at the time of their application, are not able to prove their English language skills as listed above, must provide a proof of their registration for the next possible test date (e.g. print-out of the online registration). In this case, the deadline for late-submission of the test results will be postponed until 31 May.
