Course description

The Master's programme in Biology offers four specialisations: Microbial and Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Ecology. This programme provides a research- and practice-oriented education in these fields, closely tied to the research activities of the participating groups. This connection allows you to develop a unique scientific profile and gain professional knowledge. Specialisation: Microbial and Plant Biotechnology (MPBiotec) This specialisation focuses on in-depth, basic science-based training in the biotechnology of microorganisms and plants. You will gain a thorough understanding of the molecular biology of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, along with modern methods for their investigation and targeted modification. Additionally, you will learn about systems biology and bioinformatics and their practical applications. This knowledge forms the foundation for applied research topics within the programme. You will explore areas such as infection mechanisms of bacterial and fungal pathogens affecting humans and plants, resistance mechanisms to antimicrobial agents, and the strategies cultivated plants use to achieve high yields and tolerate various stress factors, both abiotic and biotic. By engaging with these topics, you will be well-prepared to contribute to advancements in the field of Microbial and Plant Biotechnology.

Description of contents of the courses listed in No. 1. Statement with reasons for the intended takingup of the studies and explanations of study aims. Presentation of professional and personal development (curriculum vitae), if applicable, with descriptions of practical knowledge and experience. Recommendation letters of at least 2 university/college lecturers. The recommendation letters should include statement on how well the applicant completed his/her studies in relation to other candidates of the course of studies.
