Course description
The Department of Oriental and Islamic Studies in Tübingen offers a rich array of seminars, language courses, and research projects. Our degree programs provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the languages, history, and cultures of the Middle East and the broader Islamic Orient. The language program includes Arabic, Persian, and Turkish. We offer research-oriented courses through our two professorships: one in Islamic intellectual history, covering philosophy and theology, and another in Islamic history and culture, focusing on the history of literature and culture. Students in Tübingen benefit from extensive interdisciplinary networking opportunities. There is a close exchange with programs such as Comparative Middle East Politics and Societies, Philosophy, Jewish Studies, and the Center for Islamic Theology. This collaborative environment enriches the academic experience and fosters a deeper understanding of the subjects studied.
